Dave Smith – 3D Printer Power

It's frustrating when your new 3D printer won't turn on. If your Creality Ender 3 won't power on this should be the first step in your troubleshooting. There may be other reasons, but the one that first popped in your head is most likely the correct one. My first thought was, there has to be a fuse somewhere on the power supply. Low and behold I was correct, but finding that fuse can be frustrating. Once found it is only a matter of switching it from 230V to 115V. So here is the story. I got home from work after talking with the guys about 3D printing. We were discussing printing parts for a Rube Goldberg machine. So I ran down to turn on my printer to get started. I flipped on the power switch and nothing happened. Mumbling WTF to myself, thinking this thing is brand new. I jumped on Slack to contact a buddy of mine who is a whiz with 3D printers, but he wasn't available. So I started to panic a bit, but I kept thinking there has to be a fuse somewhere causing this. I looked all over the place but I couldn't find one until I turned the printer around. Sitting there, right in front of my face was a big red button, in reality, a fuse but I was definitely on to something. From there I looked closer to read the writing on the fuse and I had my answer. The fuse was set to 230 volts instead of the 115 volts. Since the printer was working a couple of days before this, I have no idea how it changed. I chalk it up to a power surge at my house. Or one of the gremlins that eats all the chips and puts empty bags back in the pantry. No matter, it was a simple fix. Check out this quick video on the process.
